Barnes & Noble is expected to announce another device in their NOOK lineup later this month, possibly more powerful than its predecessors.  Although the full details remain hazy at this point, whispers peg the new model with a couple of potential features.  On one side, the word is that this third model will be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb under the hood, giving an even more tablet-like experience. CNET, on the other hand, is thinking it’s just a refresh to the E-Ink model that came out in later 2009.  As the Kindle gets thinner and more powerful, the original NOOK feels outdated. A lighter, faster, cheaper NOOK sounds awesome, right?   Then there’s this third possibility that it combines the first NOOK with the NOOK Color and releases a touch screen version using E-Ink’s Pearl display.

We don’t expect B&N to shy away from using Android any time soon, something we’re sure you hacker types are looking forward to. We’ll be watching the skies for news come May 24th when the book selling giant should drop the news.
