AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Easy to use interface with clean mosaic style in the same vein as Pulse News Reader!
  • Phone and Tablet optimized articles; streamlined for easy viewing!
  • Allows for the sharing of articles with friends through Facebook, Twitter, and Email!
  • Allows you to share your comments on articles with others!

Cons

  • No Background Notifications.
  • No video content.
  • Application does not support sharing through applications like Text Messaging, Whatsapp, Evernote, etc.

Features:

NBC Sports talk is an application to keep up with the latest news on your favorite sports and teams! It allows you to read articles, post comments, and even share the latest news with your friends.

NBC Sports Talk shows the latest sports news in the style of a mosaic very similar to Pulse News. The interface is very well laid out and easy to use like Pulse News Reader as well. The main screen is sorted by category for each row. The various categories of sports news include: ProFootballTalk, HardballTalk, ProBasketball Talk, ProHockeyTalk, CollegeFootballTalk, ProGolfTalk, and Inside the Irish.

Each category sorts the news feeds by time. Showing the most recently posted news first and the oldest news last. The best thing about this application is that all of the news articles are formatted to be easily read on the screen of a phone or tablet. A big complaint that I have had with similar news readers was the difficulty of reading the full article within the reader.  Instead with NBC Sports Talk every article is formatted perfectly to be read easily on any device.

NBC Sports Talk also allows you to share articles that you enjoy with others. It allows for sharing through Email, Facebook, and Twitter. Hopefully more methods of sharing will be added in the future.

Finally, this application allows the reader to post comments on any article that they read. This creates a unique social interaction between readers and creates a sports news community. This feature also allows readers to participate in special offers that are occasionally given within an article.

Usefulness:

This application is great for keeping up with the latest sports news, gossip, and analysis. The articles are well written, the interface is clean and easy to use, and the format of the articles is ideal for viewing on a smartphone or tablet. If you love sports and keeping up with the latest sports news then this application is for you.

Ease of Use:

NBC Sports Talk is very easy to use. The interface is well designed to deliver a optimal user experience. There is no clutter or excessive options buttons. Instead the interface is streamlined for easy use and the articles are formatted perfectly to fit the screen of your phone or tablet.

Frequently Used:

If you like sports or would like to learn more about them then this application is for you. It keeps you up to date with the latest news on player’s injuries, lives, and careers. It allows you to get the latest analysis from the experts, and it also allows you to submit your own personal feedback.

Interface:

The interface for NBC Sports talk is very easy to use and visually appealing. The main screen is arranged in almost identical fashion to Pulse News Reader. This style shows the main picture of each article in a sort of mosaic along with a brief caption of the article’s contents allowing the reader to decide what to read first.

Each article is optimized to format properly on your phone or tablet. They are easy to read and well written. They also allow you to post your own feedback on each article and to interact with other users.

The biggest drawbacks to the NBC Sports Talk application are it’s lack of video, lack of notifications, and lack of sharing options.

All of the articles that I have encountered in NBC Sports Talk have been text only with no video. To some extent this is to be expected from a sports news and analysis application, but sports applications always have the greatest draw when they come with footage from the game. People like to see their sports hero’s in action and hopefully NBC Sports Talk will include some video interviews or video sport’s analysis in the future.

Another downside to the application is it’s lack of notifications. With most news reader applications you have the option to turn on or off background notifications when new articles are posted to the news reader. NBC Sports Talk does not have this option. The lack of background notifications means that the user has to go in to the application every time he wants to check and see if there has been any recent news. Many times you will return to the application shortly after closing it down to see that no new articles have posted. The exact opposite can also be true and you can end up hearing about an important news item from a friend long after the article was originally released because you forgot to check the application for updates. Hopefully background notifications will be added in later updates.

Finally, NBC Sports Talk only allows you to share content through Facebook, Twitter, or Email. The Android platform supports sharing content through potentially hundreds of different platforms. Some that I use myself like Evernote, Text Messaging, WordPress, and Whatsapp were not able to be used to share articles from the NBC Sports Talk application. The developers did add the option to copy the hyperlink and paste it into another application, but that is exactly the kind of work the share button was supposed to make us avoid doing. Given the fact that so many developers do take full advantage of the many sharing options that are available, and that a company like NBC should want their content in the hands of as many readers as possible, I am very hopeful that this will be fixed with future software updates.
