Motorola Atrix 4G Gingerbread Update Could Unlock Bootloader

Among the things that plagued AT&T’s Atrix 4G upon launch were the lack of HSUPA+ connectivity and the heavily secured bootloader Motorola has become known for. While the 4G part of the phone has been resolved, no progress has been made with a work around for the mighty bootloader of this Tegra 2 handset. Following HTC’s announcement to start providing unlocked bootloaders – again – Motorola released a statement saying that they too would be unlocking the them on their future devices and would be releasing updates to unlock the current range of devices in late 2011. Although we haven’t quite reached the time frame Motorola has slated for this epic event, reports rolling out in suggest that the new Atrix Gingerbread update rolling out around the globe has given users the ability to unlock the bootloaders. While nothing has been confirmed for the US variants it’s definitely a possibility given the carriers planned support for the development community. If all goes well a Gingerbread will be coming next month and we’ll get to see if this rumor holds true. Cross your fingers!
